Abstract
Seventeen polymorphic microsatellite loci were isolated from Rhinogobio cylindricus, an endemic Chinese cyprinid fish in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, using the fast isolation by AFLP of sequences containing repeats (FISCO) protocol. The number of observed alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 9. Observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.152–0.889 to 0.171–0.872, respectively. No significant linkage disequilibrium was found between pairs of loci. Five loci showed significant deviation from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium. Null alleles might be present at three loci. These polymorphic loci could be successfully amplified in at least one of six related Gobioninae species (Rhinogobio typus, Rhinogobio ventralis, Coreius guichenoti, Coreius heterodon, Hemibarbus maculatus and Squalidus argentatus). This will provide useful tools for population and conservation genetics studies of R. cylindricus and its closely-related species.
