Abstract

To clarify the main factors that control deep carbonate rock gas reservoirs in the Jiulong Mountain area, China, reservoir fractures and caves were investigated. This study revealed, for the first time, that fault-dissolved body traps have formed in the Maokou Formation, Sichuan Basin, and that the identification of fault-dissolved bodies is key in the exploration process. In this study, high-precision 3D seismic data were used for structural interpretation, and the distribution of fault-dissolved bodies was controlled via the spatial distribution of large faults. The development position of fault-dissolved bodies was identified using volumetric curvature attributes, which showcased the linear distribution of a series of round abnormal bodies on the plane as well as Y-shaped bodies and en echelon distribution on the section. The genesis of fault-dissolved bodies in the Maokou Formation was explored in combination with regional geological research. According to the drilling development effect, it has been found that the development effect of banded fault-dissolved body gas reservoirs is the best. Additionally, the investigation of this type of trap provides valuable insights for the exploration and development of gas reservoirs in the Sichuan Basin.
