Abstract

UV–Visible spectrophotometers are widely used in academia, research and industry for the product verification and quality assurance. The regular performance check of spectrophotometer is required for quality assurance and can be done by performing the calibration periodically using specific methods or reference materials. We have prepared 4% Ho2O3 solution in perchlorate acid as an indigenous reference material for wavelength calibration of spectrophotometer. The transmission spectra for Ho2O3 solution have been collected in the wavelength range of 200–700 nm. Role of selected parameters such as solution concentration and spectral band width on band position has been investigated. A total of 19 transmittance bands were observed, and out of them, 11 bands are considered for wavelength calibration. The associated uncertainty has been evaluated for all 11 transmission bands. The associated uncertainty is found to be within ± 1.5 nm with coverage factor 2 at 95% confidence level.
