Abstract

In this work, a semi-empirical relationship between sandblasting times and the surface roughness is presented. The derived relation is valid for the case where the erosion process does not reach the saturation regime. From the behavior of the optical transmission and the roughness as functions of sandblasting times, three erosion regime stages have been identified, and approximate limits for each regime have been established. The Weibull analysis as applied to the size defects’ distribution has revealed that the Weibull plots showed various distribution types corresponding to the three identified regimes. This result agrees well with microscopic observations of the damaged surface.
