Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund
Abstract
Background
The demand for body contouring surgery has greatly increased in recent years. The superficial fascial system is of utmost importance for body contouring surgical interventions.
Objective
This literature review summarizes the anatomy of the superficial fascial system and its importance for body contouring plastic and aesthetic surgery.
Material and methods
This narrative review summarizes the scientific knowledge of the superficial fascial system and the importance in body contouring surgical interventions in various body regions.
Results
The superficial fascial system spans from the subdermal layer to the fascia of the underlying muscle. The superficial fatty layer, superficial fascia, deep fatty layer and deep fascia are involved in the formation of the superficial fascial system. The anatomical relationships of the superficial fascial system vary depending on the habitus, body region and gender.
Discussion
The superficial fascial system plays an important role for both surgical and minimally invasive body contouring interventions. It functions as the anchoring structure and is very important for the structure and stability of the tissue, which enables safe, long-lasting and effective results to be achieved in body contouring interventions.
