Validation of a short questionnaire to assess the fear driving would-be drivers

Validación de un cuestionario breve para la evaluación del miedo a conducir en preconductores

Abstract

To show the results of the reliability and validity of the assessment of fear of driving in individuals who aspire to his first driver’s license. The questionnaire was applied to a sample of candidates for driver license in different driving schools in all Catalonia (Spain) during July to October 2010. The reliability and validity analysis using the principal components criterion were done. The results revealed a presence of a simple three-factor solution that explain the 50,62 of the variance and a high internal consistency (α = 0.86). Conclusions: The results support the validity and reliability of a questionnaire to assess the fear of future driver training before driving, according to the study sample.

Resumen

Mostrar los resultados del proceso de confiabilidad y validez del Cuestionario de Evaluación del Miedo a Conducir en Preconductores (CEMICP). El cuestionario ha sido aplicado a una muestra de alumnos aspirantes a su primer permiso de conducir. Los datos han sido recogidos durante las clases teóricas en distintas autoescuelas y poblaciones de Cataluña (España). El periodo comprende los meses de julio a octubre del 2010. Se realizó un análisis de consistencia interna mediante el alpha de Cronbach. Para la evaluación de validez de la estructura interna se ejecutó un análisis factorial de componentes principales con rotación varimax. Las medidas que este instrumento proporciona son de una buena confiabilidad (α = 0.86). Dando como resultado una estructura interna de tres factores y una varianza explicada de 50,62. Según la muestra estudiada el instrumento CEMICP, objeto de este trabajo, muestra un buen grado de validez y confiabilidad para estimar el miedo a conducir o amaxofobia.
