Abstract

Visible Emission Line Coronagraph (VELC) is the prime payload among the seven payloads on board Aditya-L1 mission. VELC is a dedicated payload for the solar coronal observations. It is capable of simultaneous spectroscopic observations in coronal emission lines 5303 Å, 7892 Å and 10747 Å. Spectrograph of VELC is designed in the Littrow configuration, where same lens system acts as both collimator and camera lens. Performance of Littrow Lens Assembly (LLA) should be optimized for all the three wavelengths, i.e., 5303 Å, 7892 Å and 10747 Å. Also, the diffracted beams from the grating enter the LLA at different off-axis angles. Hence, the performance of the system should be optimized such that the off-axis aberrations are minimized. Being a space based system, constrains such as weight, dimensions and environmental qualification result in stringent requirements on design, fabrication and performance of the LLA. Standalone testing of LLA is crucial to evaluate its performance prior to integrating in the system. This paper provides an overview of the LLA design, detailed discussion about the tests carried out on LLA and the results obtained.
