A Review of the CSIR-NGRI Seismicity Studies during the Last Sixty Years

  • Published:
Journal of the Geological Society of India

Abstract

Earthquakes during the last sixty years both moderate and large magnitudes have caused considerable damage to the built in environment and loss of life in India. CSIR-NGRI has been systematically studying both the inter and intra plate earthquakes during this period and the contributions are seminal in nature. During the sixty years journey, with a single WWSSN station at CSIR-NGRI, Hyderabad campus, presently are operating more than 200 seismological stations across the country. In this manuscript we shall be presenting the various studies undertaken by CSIR-NGRI in characterizing the seismicity and its relation to various tectonic features.
