Implementation of a 3 times zoom lens barrel system for a 5M camera module using a mobile phone

Abstract

In this study, we developed a small 3 times zoom lens barrel for a 5M camera module to load a mobile phone set. Its dimensions are 16mm × 9mm × 28mm and is constructed with 8 sheets of lenses, two step motors, some gears, a cam plate and so on.

Jae-Hoon Chung completed his doctorate in Interdisciplinary Program in Mechatronic at Pusan National University in 2008. His research interests include system engineering and mechatronics for subminiatures.

Sung-Hoon Jung received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from KAIST ICC in 2006 and worked at KT Network Infra Laboratory from 2007. His research interests include LTE (Long Term Evolution) and application software for next-generation cellular phone technology.

Man-Hyung Lee received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Pusan National University in 1971. He was an Instructor in the Department of Electronics Engineering, Korea Military Academy from 1971 to 1974 and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Pusan National University from 1974 to 1978. He held positions as a Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant and Prodoctoral Fellow at Oregon State University from 1978 to 1983. Since 1983, he has been a Professor in the College of Engineering, Pusan National University, where he is also currently a POSCO Chair Professor in the School of Mechanical Engineering. His research interests are estimation, identification, stochastic processes, bilinear systems, mechatronics, micromachine automation and robotics. He is the author of more than 550 technical papers and was the Program Chair of the 1998 4th ICASE Annual Conference and was General co-chairman of the 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE).
