With the current volume 29, Mycotoxin Research enters a fifth year of successful cooperation between the Society for Mycotoxin Research and Springer. During this time, there has been a transition from a print-only society publication to a highly visible print+online journal. Thanks to the continuous and professional efforts of our publisher to increase the accessibility of our journal, Mycotoxin Research is now available online in a rapidly growing number of scientific libraries worldwide. This makes the articles published in our journal readily available to the scientific community.

In this regard, perhaps the most important recent achievement is that Mycotoxin Research is now fully covered by PubMed/Medline, effective from volume 28 (2012). Since PubMed/Medline is the most important free database in medical sciences worldwide, we think that this reflects the impact of scientific research published in Mycotoxin Research for human and animal health. Our idea of providing a fully interdisciplinary journal, which covers all disciplines involved in mycotoxin research, including medical, chemical, biological, and agricultural aspects, is thus acknowledged as a useful concept, not only by our readership but also by international scientific databases.

The impact of a scientific publication such as Mycotoxin Research depends on a number of factors, the most important being the authors of high quality articles who decide to publish their work in our journal. We therefore want to thank our authors for submitting highly relevant and interesting manuscripts over the years. The rapidly increasing number of citations of articles in Mycotoxin Research in recent years is a good indicator of the quality and relevance of our published research articles.

We are also much obliged to our international editorial board, both for their sustained support and for their abundant, helpful advice on continuously improving Mycotoxin Research. We are especially happy about the fact that the international basis of the board has been further strengthened recently, by recruiting well-known scientists from Asia and South America.

The stringent peer-review process of Mycotoxin Research would not be possible without the enthusiasm and diligence of our reviewers, who enable us to identify and select high quality manuscripts for publication. We therefore thank all our colleagues worldwide who have volunteered as reviewers over the last few years.

Finally, we want to thank all the members of the Society for Mycotoxin Research for their confidence and trust in the perspectives of our official journal. We think that we now can say that our cooperation with Springer was a worthwhile enterprise, well in line with our society’s primary goal: the promotion of research in the field of mycotoxins. With the continued support of our partners and colleagues, we are sure that the future will hold steady progress and quality improvement for Mycotoxin Research.
