Abstract
Today the appointment book of an average societal member is bulging. A countless number of things have to be taken care of, not least due to the numerous common social demands that have to be fulfilled. In doing so, it is usually the health-promoting physical activities that fall short. Ambitiously taken up fitness programs are abandoned after six months on average. The author of this study, doctoral candidate and longtime athlete himself, seeks to fathom this widespread phenomenon and to elicit, on the basis of contemporary sportsscientific literature, the “best” training method, measured against the key parameters effectivity, efficiency, safety, and longevity. While focusing on the strength part of general fitness training, where the grade of confusion concerning the most desirable characteristics of a training regimen seems to be the highest, systematic analysis and synthesis of a wide variety of literature leads to the insight that there is no existing “best” training method, that would integrate all the necessary attributes in one method. Due to this fact the author decides to create the “best” method by combining the strengths of the established methods, while trying to eliminate the obvious weaknesses. The final hybrid product of this study features a balanced profile of key properties and ensures its optimal integration in the overfull appointment book.
