Abstract
The paper examines the magnitude 6 earthquake that struck Crete on September 27, 2021. The study of the statistics of measurements of the three components of the geomagnetic field made it possible to identify a group of recurring phenomena that took place several hours before this event and, therefore, can be interpreted as its precursors. Similar phenomena took place before the foreshock, as well as a significant part of the aftershocks of this earthquake. The approach used is based on the estimation of the variations in the entropy of the signal under consideration and, in particular, makes it possible to distinguish an interval of the order of several hours between the end of the existence of the indicated phenomena and the beginning of the expected earthquake. This makes it possible to study seismic processes with a fairly accurate reference to the current time.
