Antwoord op ‘Gezondheid: een definitie?’ van Poiesz, Caris en Lapré

Samenvatting

Toen wij in 2011 in de BMJ 1 onze nieuwe omschrijving van gezondheid voorstelden: ‘Health as the ability to adapt and to self manage in the face of the social, physical and emotional challenges of life’, beoogden wij een discussie op gang te brengen over de definitie van de WHO en ons voorgestelde concept. Dus de uitdrukking die Poiesz, Caris en Lapré (verder te noemen ‘de auteurs’) geven aan hun kritiek en herkenbare verwarring in hun bijdrage in het vorige nummer van TSG 2 en ook hun oproep om te komen tot een evenwichtige gezondheidsdefinitie, is zeker welkom, want geeft de mogelijkheid om een en ander nader te verduidelijken en te bediscussiëren. Ik ga de diverse punten van kritiek langs, in de volgorde waarin ze beschreven werden, ofschoon dat de leesbaarheid niet zal bevorderen. Excuus daarvoor.
