Tijdschrift voor gezondheidswetenschappen Aims and scope

Double benefits

The Dutch Youth Health Care (DYHC) contributes to the health of all citizens and to the economy of the Netherlands on a large scale. The cost-effectiveness analysis of Verdonck, Klooster & Associates (VKA) commissioned by ActiZ confirms this. Prevention by Youth Health Care pays! Virtually all children are reached by the DYHC. This high reach provides a wide focus, connection with both parents and children and ensures a basis of trust. Every euro invested yearly in the Dutch Youth Health Care yields € 11. Of all researched interventions, vaccinations provide the largest contribution in both health and economic profit. This is achieved by the high ratio of vaccination, among other aspects. Due to the efforts of the DYHC, the citizens live healthy for an extra year. Especially the vaccinations against poliomyelitis and measles provide a decrease in cases of illness and more healthy years of life.
