Belangstelling voor de bedrijfsartsenopleiding is te gering

Abstract

Al enkele jaren worden er te weinig bedrijfsartsen opgeleid om de collega’s te vervangen die het vak verlaten. Dit geldt zeker de komende periode waarin de helft van de beroepsgroep met pensioen gaat. Het Capaciteitsorgaan berekende dat jaarlijks 145 bedrijfsartsen moeten worden opgeleid om aan de vraag te voldoen. Gezien de marktontwikkelingen lijkt dit een te hoge schatting, maar de huidige instroom van 10 tot 20 artsen per jaar is zeker te gering.

Interest in a career in occupational health is too low

Since a couple of years the interest to become occupational physician is limited. Possible explanations and solutions have been discussed during a ‘world café’ with more than 30 representatives of the profession, the work field, professional associations and the educational field. The main recommendations are summarized in this paper. It is considered important to pay more attention to occupational medicine during the basic medical training and a clerkship occupational health. Traineeships seem a possibility to familiarize young physicians with the work field. It is also recommended that the specialization to occupational physician will be paid from the Training Fund (Opleidingsfonds) as is the case for all other medical specializations.
