Abstract

A complete rupture of the proximal hamstring is a rare injury. The diagnosis is often made too late.

This rupture occurs particularly in water sports and athletics. It is caused by a forced eccentric muscle contraction with hyperflection of the hip and the knee in extension. To prevent chronic morbidity and loss of function, it is important to make the correct diagnosis quickly and to start the right treatment as soon as possible.
