Samenvatting

Van de volwassenen in Nederland heeft 35 procent een actieve, chronische tandvleesontsteking. Daardoor gaat de conditie van het gebit achteruit en tandvleesontsteking lijkt ook invloed te hebben op het ontstaan van diabetes. Parodontitis kan een goede indicator zijn van diabetes en daarom is vroege opsporing essentieel. Hier ligt niet alleen een taak voor de tandarts of de mondhygiënist, maar ook voor praktijkondersteuners.
