Samenvatting

Tiotropium is het eerste langwerkende inhaleerbare parasympathicolyticum dat sinds 2001 internationaal beschikbaar is gekomen voor de behandeling van chronisch obstructieve luchtwegaandoeningen (COPD). In dit artikel worden de geregistreerde indicatie, de beschikbare handelsvormen, het werkingsmechanisme, de werkzaamheid en bijwerkingen beschreven, en ook de plaats van tiotropium in de behandeling van COPD.
