Samenvatting

Genetische aanleg speelt niet alleen een rol bij het ontstaan van ziekten, maar heeft ook invloed op hoe we op medicatie reageren. Een groots opgezet onderzoek door de Queen Mary University van Londen en gepubliceerd in Nature Communications, toonde aan dat mensen met verhoogd LDL-gehaltes verschillend reageren op statines. Statines kunnen slechte cholesterolspiegels verlagen tot 55% en het risico van hartaandoeningen reduceren, maar blijkbaar niet bij iedereen.
