De enkel-armindex is een inmiddels vertrouwd instrument in de huisartsenpraktijk om perifeer arterieel vaatlijden vast te stellen en wordt door praktijkondersteuners regelmatig uitgevoerd bij patiënten met klachten. Het instrument heeft echter een beperkte voorspellende waarde voor cardiovasculaire risico’s bij mensen zonder klachten.
