Samenvatting
Een aanzienlijk deel van de patiënten die een CVA (cerebrovasculair accident oftewel beroerte) krijgt, is in de jaren erna inactief, vermoeid, somber en beperkt mobiel. Ook partners van CVA-patiënten hebben vaak klachten. Ze ervaren onder andere een mindere kwaliteit van leven en hebben depressieve symptomen. De klachten van patiënten en hun partners kunnen in de loop van de tijd verergeren. Het is belangrijk dat je als huisarts of praktijkondersteuner deze klachten signaleert. Dit kan door in het eerste jaar elke drie tot zes maanden contact te onderhouden met de patiënt en zijn partner. Na het eerste jaar kun je klachten signaleren door vragen over het welzijn van de patiënt en partner toe te voegen aan deZorgstandaard Vasculair Risicomanagement. Het is goed om niet alleen aandacht te besteden aan het welzijn van de patiënt, maar ook aan dat van de eventuele partner en thuiswonende kinderen (gezinsgerichte benadering). Bij problemen kun je doorverwijzen naar organisaties zoals MEE en mantelzorgsteunpunten. Ook een revalidatieteam in het ziekenhuis, verpleeghuis of revalidatiecentrum is een optie. Revalidatiezorg staat nu nog te boek als iets wat alleen kort na het CVA aan de orde is, maar revalidatie heeft ook in de chronische fase veel te bieden.
