Belemmeringen voor methadonbehandeling in Amsterdam

Reflecties ter verbetering van het bereik

Opiaatverslaafden komen zonder methadonbehandeling niet in aanmerking voor heroïneverstrekking. Opiaatgebruik enerzijds en het gemis van methadonbehandeling en heroïneverstrekking anderzijds leiden bij deze gebruikers, die tevens veelvuldig crack gebruiken, vaak tot ernstige gezondheidsklachten, marginalisering en overlast. Bovendien missen zij vormen van aanvullende hulp die via de poliklinieken van de GGD aangeboden worden. Uit oogpunt van openbare gezondheidszorg is het echter van belang het langzaam afnemende bereik van de methadonbehandeling voor alle gebruikers op peil te houden en waar mogelijk te maximaliseren. Inzicht in de belemmeringen voor methadonbehandeling vanuit het perspectief van de gebruiker is nodig om dit doel te bereiken. De hier beschreven kwalitatieve studie richtte zich specifiek op onbehandelde Amsterdamse heroïneverslaafden en maakte gebruik van open vragen om nieuwe informatie te verzamelen.
