Veel gevaren die het vak tandarts in vroeger tijden met zich meebracht, zoals besmetting met tuberculose, difterie, mazelen of vergiftiging met kwikzilver of formaline, zijn verleden tijd. Maar tandartsen lopen nog steeds risico op meerdere beroepsziekten, zoals contacteczeem, allergieën, aandoeningen aan het houdings- en bewegingsapparaat of burn-out.
