Flossen heeft weinig tot geen effect om tandplaque en tandvleesontsteking te voorkomen. Dat concludeerde tandarts en bijzonder hoogleraar parodontologie aan ACTA Fridus van der Weijden onlangs in Periodontology 2000. Volgens hem komt dit doordat veel mensen thuis niet goed genoeg flossen om tandvleesproblemen tegen te kunnen gaan.
