De aanleiding om te zoeken naar nieuwe methoden om het optreden van resistente bacteriën, zoals MRSA, Clostridium en Acinetobacter te voorkomen, leidde tot extra aandacht voor desinfectie. In Nederland dient desinfectie plaats te vinden volgens de WIP-richtlijnen. Hierin staat dat in bepaalde situaties het gebruik van 1000pm hypochloriet mogelijk is, maar de verkoop is in Nederland niet toegestaan. Bij gebrek aan een alternatief wordt het gebruik van dit middel door de Inspectie voor de Gezondheidszorg gedoogd.
