Few studies have focused on materials for stimulating emotion-recognition in primary schools. This article reports on research into ’What do my feelings say’: photocards of emotional expressions and situations. With the Assessment of Children’s Emotion Skills the effects in kindergarten, grades three and six, on emotion recognition were investigated (n = 245). In the sixth grade, self-reported emotion differentiation and attention for other’s emotions (subscales of the Emotion Awareness Questionnaire) were also assessed. The intervention group played for four weeks with ‘What do my feelings say’ and was compared with a control group at a pre- and posttest. Compared with the intervention group, grade six boys in the control group appeared to report less attention for other’s emotions at the posttest. There were no effects on reported emotion differentiation. Emotion recognition of the intervention group increased compared with the control group, particularly in grade three. ’What do my feelings say’ positively effects emotion recognition and seems most suitable for grade three.
