Is er een relatie tussen SDQ-scores in groep 7 en ziekteverzuim op het voortgezet onderwijs?

Samenvatting

Inleiding: Ziekteverzuim is de meest voorkomende vorm van schoolverzuim in het voortgezet onderwijs (vo). Bij ziekteverzuim spelen naast gezondheidsklachten vaak ook psychosociale problemen of psychiatrische ziekten een rol. In dit onderzoek gaan we na of er een relatie is tussen scores op de Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) in groep 7 en ziekteverzuim in het vo.

Methode: Dossieronderzoek bij 356 leerlingen met en 356 leerlingen zonder veelvuldig ziekteverzuim op het vo in het schooljaar 2015–2016.

Resultaten: De SDQ-totaalscore en de impactscore verschillen niet significant, maar wel de subschaal emotionele problemen (oddsratio 2,21; 95%-betrouwbaarheidsinterval 1,36–3,58; en adjusted oddsratio 1,92; 95%-betrouwbaarheidsinterval 1,07–3,43). Leerlingen met een verhoogde score op de subschaal emotionele problemen die leven in een eenoudergezin met een zieke moeder hebben een zeer hoge kans om later ziekteverzuim te ontwikkelen, maar het komt niet vaak voor.

Conclusie: Er is een relatie tussen een verhoogde score op de subschaal emotionele problemen van de SDQ in groep 7 en ziekteverzuim in het vo. Voor deze leerlingen kan mogelijk een interventie ontwikkeld worden.
