Pijn door chemotherapie-geïnduceerde perifere neuropathie

Samenvatting

Chemotherapie-geïnduceerde perifere neuropathie (CIPN) is een onderschatte, veelvoorkomende bijwerking van chemotherapie, die een negatieve impact heeft op de kwaliteit van leven. Ongeveer een kwart van de patiënten krijgt naast de symptomen van een doof gevoel en verminderde motoriek ook spontane pijn in handen en voeten. Vraag patiënten expliciet naar deze klachten. Alleen voor de pijnklachten van CIPN is symptomatische behandeling mogelijk. Wanneer medicamenteuze behandeling onvoldoende effect heeft, kan een pijnbehandelcentrum uitkomst bieden. Verwijs naar een neuroloog voor aanvullend onderzoek bij neurologische alarmsymptomen.
