Een pasgeborene met een nieuw ontstane zwelling in de hals

Samenvatting

Fibromatosis colli, congenitale musculaire torticollis of pseudotumor van de sternocleidomastoideus – het zijn termen die verwijzen naar een verdikking en verkorting van de musculus sternocleidomastoideus. Bij pasgeborenen kan als gevolg van zo’n vervorming een zwelling in de hals ontstaan, waarbij de nek een scheve of gedraaide stand krijgt, met een afwijking van het gezicht als gevolg. De zwelling wordt meestal zichtbaar als het kind tussen de 2 en 4 weken oud is. De precieze oorzaak is niet bekend, maar een traumatische partus wordt in de literatuur als een mogelijke oorzaak aangewezen.
