Samenvatting

Patiënten die pijn hebben in hun kauwspieren gaan meestal naar hun tandarts, maar melden zich soms eerst bij hun huisarts. Een diagnose stellen kan lastig zijn, onder andere omdat de klachten doen denken aan bijvoorbeeld kiespijn, otitis externa, sinusitis en trigeminusneuralgie. Er kan echter ook sprake zijn van temporomandibulaire disfunctie (TMD), een voor huisartsen minder bekende aandoening van het kauwstelsel. We gaan in op het ontstaan en de behandeling van 2 veelvoorkomende symptomen van TMD.
