Syndroom van Charles Bonnet

Samenvatting

Bij dit weinig bekende syndroom veroorzaakt een visusstoornis (meestal leeftijdsgerelateerde maculadegeneratie) hallucinaties waarvan de patiënt wéét dat het hallucinaties zijn. Schaamte en angst dat het toch een psychiatrische stoornis is, zijn een drempel om de dokter te bezoeken en ook die is niet altijd bekend met de kwaal. Daardoor wordt de diagnose vaak gemist. Eenvoudige maatregelen zoals een goed verlichte omgeving, visushulpmiddelen en sociale interactie kunnen soelaas bieden. De beelden nemen na een aantal maanden doorgaans af.
