Context Bij telegeneeskunde (zorg op afstand) wordt ict gebruikt om de fysieke afstand tot de patiënt te overbruggen. Voorbeelden zijn monitoring met behulp van op afstand verzamelde data, het opslaan en versturen van data zoals bij teledermatologie, en ten slotte teleconsulten waarin er direct real-time contact is tussen patiënt en behandelaar. De effectiviteit en doelmatigheid van telegeneeskunde staat nog steeds ter discussie.
