Azitromycine verhoogt risico op acute hartdood niet

Samenvatting

Huisartsen schrijven regelmatig het macrolide azitromycine voor. Sinds 2013 wordt er gewaarschuwd dat het middel het risico op fatale hartritmestoornissen verhoogt door verlenging van de QT-tijd. Nieuw onderzoek bij > 500.000 patiënten laat echter zien dat het risico op ritmestoornissen of mortaliteit bij azitromycine niet hoger is dan bij andere antibiotica.
