Ongecompliceerde urineweginfecties bij vrouwen zijn dikwijls self-limiting, zodat de vraag kan worden gesteld of behandeling met antibiotica wel noodzakelijk is. Duitse onderzoekers gingen na of symptomatische behandeling van urineweginfecties met ibuprofen het aantal antibioticumvoorschriften vermindert.
