Koolstofmonoxide intoxicatie

Samenvatting

Bij een normale verbranding van koolstofhoudende stoffen (onder andere hout en aardgas) komt koolstofdioxide (CO2) vrij. Als er onvoldoende zuurstof aanwezig is, zal de verbranding onvolledig zijn. In dat geval komt koolstofmonoxide (CO) vrij (bijvoorbeeld bij een defecte cv-ketel of bij verbranding in een onvoldoende geventileerde ruimte). CO is een kleurloos, reukloos en smaakloos gas dat niet irriteert.
