Abstract
Kukutsch NA, Bergman W. Dermoscopy in general practice 2. Huisarts Wet 2015;58(2):90-3.
Dermoscopy can improve the accuracy of diagnosis of pigmented skin lesions, but it is essential that general practitioners receive adequate training. The dermoscopic diagnosis of skin abnormalities is established in a two-step procedure. In step 1, specific criteria are used to distinguish melanocytic lesions from non-melanocytic lesions, and in step 2 a 7-point checklist is used to evaluate the malignancy of the lesion. The latter algorithm is discussed in this article, as it is most appropriate for use in general practice.
