Montelukast helpt niet bij aanhoudende hoest

Samenvatting

Veel patiënten in de huisartsenpraktijk houden last van hoesten na een luchtweginfectie. Aanwezigheid van ontstekingscellen in de luchtwegen kan de hoest instandhouden. De ontstekingsremmer Montelukast (singulair) zou in dit geval mogelijk werkzaam zijn. Brits onderzoek wijst echter uit dat het middel niet effectief is bij 2 tot 8 weken aanhoudende hoest na een luchtweginfectie.
