Vertraging slecht voor overleving PPU

Een geperforeerd ulcus pepticum (PPU) is een levensbedreigende complicatie, waarbij gas en vloeistof in de buikholte lekken. Hoewel de incidentie laag is (circa 6 per 100.000 personen per jaar), bedraagt het sterftecijfer 25 tot 30%. De belangrijkste doodsoorzaak is sepsis. Therapie is dan ook gericht op het voorkomen hiervan en kent twee hoekstenen: zo snel mogelijk intraveneus toedienen van breedspectrumantibiotica en chirurgie.
