Doel

Het verkrijgen van gegevens over het benzodiazepinegebruik van patiënten, 10 jaar na een minimale interventie, en over factoren die een blijvende abstinentie voorspellen.

Methoden

Gegevensverzameling bij patiënten, 10 jaar na deelname aan een groot prospectief, gecontroleerd interventieprogramma bij langdurig benzodiazepinegebruikers in de eerste lijn.

Resultaten

Tien jaar na het programma gebruikte 58,8% van de patiënten geen benzodiazepines. Indien ze wel benzodiazepines gebruikten was de dosering lager dan voor de interventie. Abstinentie na 21 maanden na de interventie voorspelde abstinentie na 10 jaar followup.

Conclusies

Tien jaar na een minimale interventie gericht op reductie van langdurig benzodiazepinegebruik gebruikt het grootste deel van de patiënten die initieel gestopt waren, geen benzodiazepines meer. Patiënten die niet konden stoppen of terugvielen in benzodiazepinegebruik, krijgen na 10 jaar gemiddeld lagere doses dan voorheen.
