Rabiës, ook bekend als hondsdolheid of watervrees, komt in ons land maar weinig voor. De laatste 40 jaar zijn er twee gevallen van rabiës bij de mens gezien in Nederland. Maar het bijna wereldwijd voorkomen van rabiës en het veranderend reisgedrag van met name de individuele reiziger maakt een adequate voorbereiding noodzakelijk. Daarnaast moet ook de gezondheidsprofessional die belast is met de zorg voor ziek terugkerende reizigers, goede kennis hebben.
