Samenvatting

Epiglottitis is een zeldzame maar mogelijk levensbedreigende infectie van de epiglottis, meestal veroorzaakt door Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). Belangrijke symptomen zijn keelpijn, slikklachten, koorts, inspiratoire stridor en speekselvloed. Verdenking op een epiglottitis dient te leiden tot een snelle verwijzing. Als het bewustzijn verloren wordt, is coniotomie een levensreddende handeling.
