Tumoren in het hoofd-halsgebied; een overzicht van de symptomen

Samenvatting

Kanker in het hoofd-halsgebied staat op dit moment in de top 10 van meest voorkomende maligniteiten in Nederland. Het aantal hoofd-halstumoren neemt jaarlijks toe en ook jongere mensen lopen steeds meer risico.

Tumoren in het hoofd-halsgebied presenteren zich, afhankelijk van de sublokalisatie, met verschillende symptomatologie. Het is van belang dat een huisarts op de hoogte is van de klachten waarmee patiënten zich presenteren wanneer er sprake is van een hoofd-halstumor. Op deze manier kan een tumor in een vroeg stadium worden herkend en ook behandeld. Dit verbetert de prognose van de patiënt.

Gezien de relatieve zeldzaamheid van hoofd-halstumoren is het belangrijk dat de diagnostiek en behandeling plaatsvinden in een gespecialiseerd oncologisch centrum. In Nederland zijn er acht erkende multidisciplinaire werkgroepen hoofd-halsoncologie, waar deze patiënten in een multidisciplinair team behandeld worden.
