Samenvatting
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is een complexe aandoening, waarbij comorbiditeit de complicaties van DM kan verergeren. Sociale problemen maken het moeilijker om een goede therapietrouw te bereiken, waardoor er sneller en ernstigere complicaties optreden. Sociale problemen kunnen zowel bij allochtonen als bij autochtonen voorkomen. Patiënten met sociale problemen hebben andere prioriteiten dan hun ziekte. Dit maakt adequate behandeling tot een bijzondere uitdaging.
