Readers are alerted that the book review by Ilan Stavans of Laura Limonic’s Kugel and Frijoles: Latino Jewry in the United States, which appeared in Contemporary Jewry v40(3), contains several factual errors. The factual errors include: the location of the College of Old Westbury, which is Long Island, New York; it implies repeatedly that the book author is just past her dissertation, and suggests that she writes akin to a “dutiful doctorate student,” when in fact she is a tenured professor; it incorrectly states that the author uses a small sample size for statistical tables, when in fact the tables are from the latest Pew Foundation national study of American Jews; and it incorrectly states that two chapters in the book have the same title. An Editor’s Note has been posted on this review, with additional comments.
