The Mandel Center’s research projects, events, and other activities promote the study of learners and learning across settings and contexts in Jewish education. The Center fosters greater clarity about what students learn, care about, and are able to do alongside the cultivation of shared responsibility for learning, the development of appropriate assessments, the articulation of both ambitious learning outcomes and the processes or conditions that are necessary to achieve them, and curiosity about students’ understandings. The Center’s vision includes not only focusing on learners and learning in its work in Jewish education but also promoting that focus in others—researchers, policy-makers and Jewish educational practitioners alike.
