Abstract

India is a bedrock of unexplored geological marvels from east to west and north to south. It is endowed with unique geological features of rocks, minerals, fossils, soil, and landscape which has its genesis millions of years ago. Based on the uniqueness of geological formation and aesthetic appeal the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has identified several geoheritage sites and national geological monuments. The current study aims to provide an overview of the research carried out in India on geoheritage in the last 12 years (2010-–022). The research on the topic of interest is retrieved from the Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases. Reviewing of the extracted papers is done after separating the publications that primarily focus on Indian geoheritage sites. The results suggest that over the years, there have been a growing number of studies conducted in the field. Most studies initially concentrated on identifying and characterizing India’s geoheritage sites, but as the area has gained popularity, geoscientists are now looking into its various domains of assessing the geoheritage sites including geopark, geotourism and geoconservation aspects.
