Abstract
Biosolid is a residue that can be used in agriculture for fertilizer purposes. The objective of this study is to establish the viability of industrial biosolids used for sugarcane cultivation, regarding the energy gain of the residues (straw and bagasse) in obtaining second-generation ethanol. An experiment was conducted on an experimental farm in northeastern Brazil. The experimental design used was randomized blocks, composed of 6 (six) treatments: without fertilization (control), commercial fertilization, and 1×, 2×, 4×, and 8× the biosolid dose recommended by the Brazilian National Environment Council (CONAMA Resolution 375/2006), with three replicates each, totaling 18 experimental plots. The sugarcane variety RB 92,579 was used. Drip irrigation was applied equally across all treatments, and a textile industry provided biosolid. It was demonstrated that higher doses of biosolid achieved significant gains in sugarcane production, early maturity, purity, sugars, and second-generation ethanol.
