Abstract
Mass production of inert plastics based on mineral-oil has become a problem to our environment due to the lack of sustainable recycling options. PET however consists of hydrolysable ester bonds, which enables several strategies. One aspiring technology is based on the enzymatic hydrolysis of PET. The basic building blocks of the polymer can be recovered to close the recycling loop for PET.
