Abstract

Cholesterol granuloma of the breast is a rare benign nodular lesion generally found during pathological examination. We report the case of a 93-year-old lady who presented to the emergency department with complaints of discharge from the right breast in the presence of a pre-existing swelling. Clinical examination showed an irregular mobile lump in the breast. Mammogram revealed possibility of suppurative mass lesion which on surgical excision and subsequent histopathological examination revealed the presence of cholesterol granuloma along with an intraductal papilloma. This case report highlights and underlines the need for awareness of this benign lesion as well as affirms the role of histopathological examination in avoiding misdiagnosis. However, it is not uncommon to find other co-existing pathologies as evidenced in this case.
