Abstract

The relevance of broad specialty is questioned by the ever increasing influence of super specialties in both medical and surgical fields. But the principle of comprehensive care of the patient in which the patient is treated as whole rather than specific symptoms has its origin from these broad specialties. Here, we present two images of a patient referred to our Department of Surgical Oncology, JIPMER, diagnosed as retroperitoneal tumor outside. And on further investigation, it turned out to be psoas abscess masquerading as retroperitoneal mass and was treated with pigtail and ATT. This case reiterates the importance of considering the basic principles of medicine and surgery while treating the patients and not only concentrating on the narrow symptomatology of the concerned super specialty.
